While writing the novel “Pro Patria,” that encompasses an actual journal/memoir of Bernardino Bernardini, author Marcella Bernard wrote the lyrics to an imaginary opera entitled “My Military Life.” These include the lyrics for an aria, a duet or a march, one of which is, within each chapter of the novel. Writing the lyrics, Ms. Bernard wanted to establish the importance of opera to the Italian soldiers in WWI as it was their music of choice being the language of romance, patriotism and poignancy.
The novel is scheduled for publication this year and coordinates with the centenary of the end of WWI.
To this end:
International Chamber Artists (ICA) Concert 2017/2018 Series has chosen to put to music one of Ms. Bernard’s arias entitled, “Ho Sentito,” from her novel, ”Pro Patria.”
